INTASC 7:
Planning for Instruction
The teacher plans instruction that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and the community context.
Reflection
To address this standard, I created a detailed unit plan that addressed both Virginia SOLs and NGSS concepts. I also made sure to differentiate the lesson and assessments for learners with different needs. Through lesson planning, I learned the importance of planning ahead for differentiating instruction or activities. It also became clear how important it was to ensure that the activity, while engaging, should also address the required standards and content for the course. Even though Physics does not a have a Standards of Learning Assessment, there are still standards that have been identified and must be met. It was important to align the activity with these standards because many students mentioned choosing majors that would require some physics courses in college. Having more knowledge of the standards ahead of time would have saved a lot of time in the planning process. Not knowing the standards verbatim, but at least knowing where the content being taught falls within the standard.
